Data Retention & Deletion Policy

Effective date: [DATE] · Last updated: [DATE]

Draft for legal review. This document is not legal advice and should be reviewed by a qualified Nigerian lawyer before publication.

1. General principle

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for its collection purpose, legitimate operational needs, security, legal obligations, dispute resolution, and other lawful purposes.

2. Accounts and learning history

Account information may be retained while an account is active. When an account is deleted, we will delete or anonymise information that no longer needs to be retained, subject to legal and operational requirements.

Learning information may be kept while an account is active for progress tracking, practice history, performance analysis, personalised learning, recommendations, and improvement. Account deletion can remove access to learning history.

3. De-identified, security, legal, and backup data

Appropriately aggregated or de-identified information may be retained after deletion for educational research, statistical analysis, product improvement, learning trends, and StudyGee improvement, where it can no longer reasonably identify an individual.

We may retain security and audit records to detect abuse, investigate incidents, protect users, prevent fraud, and maintain security. We may also retain information for legal obligations, lawful requests, claims, disputes, and agreement enforcement. Deleted information may remain temporarily in encrypted backups before permanent overwrite under our backup-retention procedures.

4. Deletion requests

You may request deletion subject to applicable legal limits. We may need to verify your identity and authority, and may decline or delay a request where retention is legally required or otherwise permitted.
